Hola, Bonjour, Ciao, Hi, I’m Alexis!

I’m a recent graduate of the University of Maryland, living and working right outside the U.S. capital, Washington, D.C.

My passion for international travel spawned summer 2013 when I studied abroad for the first time in Madrid, Spain. It was the most eye-opening experience of my life. A Maryland native, I grew up camping, hiking, biking and road-trippin’ up and down the East Coast with my crazy, adventurous parents. We never flew anywhere — we packed up the RV or threw a tent in the back of our Jeep and headed out. So when I left the States for the first time that summer, my definition of travel expanded substantially. In an new country, I immersed myself in trying new food, listening to regional music, hearing fascinating stories from locals, going out dancing and drinking with new friends, and, of course, taking pictures (I studied photojournalism and European art in Madrid). In that month, I fell deeply in love with travel.

Now back in the States, I am stir-crazy. I have an ever-growing bucket list, and I am eager to cross things off. But like every other college student (or now, recent grad), I barely have enough money to pay for groceries, books, gas and other daily necessities — I definitely cannot to travel in luxury. The purpose of this blog is to document and share my money-saving discoveries as I share travel stories and plan my prospective adventures. I welcome and any all suggestions for traveling as an adventurous and broke 20-something gal. I encourage you to comment on posts! Contact me at youngbroketraveler@gmail.com!

Gracias, Merci, Grazie

    1. Thank you! And that’s fantastic — I hope your trip is great! I’m now following your blog, so I’ll be sure to check in and see what you two are up to!

  1. Hi YBT, nice to meet you. Your passion for travel will last your whole life! 🙂 Well it did for me anyway. I didn’t even finish university because travelling seemed way more important. Too bad I can’t look at some of your photos – slow internet 😦
Thanks for following our blog. I hope you enjoy the stories of our journey, both inner and outer. Happy travels! Alison

    1. I’m sorry I’m just responding, but thank you so much! I think my passion for travel will last for a long time! At least, I anticipate it will!! I hope to be on your level one day. Meanwhile, will try to to follow the places you’ve been!

  2. Hi Alexis, thanks for the like on Duniya Ku. Hope someday you’ll find your way to my little corner of the world – sunny (and sometimes wet) Malaysia! 🙂

  3. (Young broke traveler) I like that. I’m not getting any younger but regarding the other part. I’m nearly there.

Tell me your thoughts!
