How I fill up my weekends

The past two weekends, I’ve been staying local to save money and soak in the amazing sights just around the corner. I’m always questing for new places to explore in different states and countries, but I can’t forget that staying around D.C. can be just as fun. From northern Virginia to Baltimore, I’ve visited some great spots that I think are totally worth sharing — so I took lots of pictures.

The weekend before last, my parents and I ventured through Main Street of Historic Ellicott City in Maryland. It was pretty gloomy out and slightly chilly — not the ideal weather for a day out. But we walked up and down the street for about an hour, being sure to take goofy pictures as we checked out the cute little shops along the long, windy road.

Last weekend, my boyfriend and I went to Virginia Gold Cup, a popular steeplechase race in The Plains, Virginia. It was my first time there, but the event is a spring staple for most people in the greater Washington metropolitan area. His brother’s company rented a space against the track and we got to watch the horses speed by while we stuffed our faces with amazing crabcakes, chicken, croissants, brownies, you name it. And there was an open bar…

This past weekend, my boyfriend and I took a fun trip through my stomping grounds and traveled through the back roads of Howard County. We popped in to my favorite spot in the area — a quaint pond in the middle of no where — before heading to Baltimore. There, we walked around the Inner Harbor, grabbed some cake-flavored ice cream, and headed up to Federal Hill to watch the sun set behind the cloudy sky.

What fun things do you do on the weekends?
